He is the former UFC Welterweight Champion and an ADCC Submission Wrestling World Championship Silver Medalist. He began studying Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under Renzo Gracie and was awarded his black belt, the first American to do so under Gracie. "The Terror" became the Ultimate Fighter 4 Welterweight Tournament Champion and later coached season 6 of The Ultimate Fighter reality show against Matt Hughes.
